Blake Howard sat down with Tavion Heights this week for an interview. Blake asked about tonight’s match. Tavion opened up about how he came to NXT from a dark time in his life. He competed at the Tokyo Olympics with no fans in the arena. At the time, he thought it didn’t affect him—but after returning home, he fell into a depression. He said he realized he wasn’t chasing Olympic gold, he was chasing the energy of the fans. That’s what drew him to WWE. For Tavion, the crowd is a living, breathing force—and there’s no place like WWE for that kind of connection.
Blake then brought up Ethan Page and asked why Tavion thinks he’s the one to beat him. Tavion said Ethan has been wrestling for 18 years and has been all over—from AAA to TNA to NXT. But Tavion pointed out that he’s also traveled the world, including wrestling in Pro Wrestling NOAH, and he never saw Ethan there. He challenged the idea that Ethan was unbeatable, asking who really won the flag match that Ethan was so proud of. Blake then asked for a fun fact fans might not know. Tavion shared that he’s a huge fishing fan—planning to catch some bass right after the interview. He also loves traveling with his wife and collects Pokémon when he’s not in the ring or outdoors.
To wrap it up, Blake asked what Tavion expects after Saturday’s match. Tavion said the crowd’s energy is everything to him. He trained for Olympic gold, but now he’s focused on NXT gold—and he plans to leave with it on Saturday.
They replay the Ricky Saints video package from Tuesday night.
Then, they show highlights from the face-to-face confrontation between Lola Vice and Jacy Jayne that also took place on Tuesday.
They take a look at the Speed Championship match.
Earlier this week, Vic Joseph interviewed Lainey Reid. He asked if she felt overlooked when the tournament brackets were announced, and what she sees as the biggest difference between Speed matches and traditional ones. Lainey explained that in regular matches, she would normally target an opponent’s weakness, but there’s no time for that in a Speed match. Fortunately, she’s used to fast-paced competition—she’s a former rodeo champion and track star—so she feels built for this style.
Vic brought up her match with Jacy Jayne. Lainey said she wanted to take initiative just like Jacy once did, so she went to Ava and asked for a match. That opportunity showed her she could hang with anyone in the division. When asked about her experience dealing with Fatal Influence, Lainey admitted she overestimated Jacy but still respects her. Above all, Lainey made it clear—she wants to be a champion.
To close the interview, Vic asked for final thoughts. Lainey confidently said she sees a real chance to win. Fans have seen what she can do in the ring, and even though this is her first PLE match, she plans to walk out of No Mercy as the new champion.
