The March 24 episode of WWE NXT is catching heat after Bryan Alvarez claimed the show wasn’t just criticized by fans — but also by people working inside the brand.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez went off about the episode and said he heard directly from individuals within NXT who also felt the show missed the mark. He described the episode as one of the worst booked shows he’s seen recently and said the reaction backstage matched his own frustration.
“Oh my God, NXT. You realise that like this NXT show on Tuesday was so ungodly terrible. It was just a horrifically booked show. It was one of those things where I ranted about it, and they clipped it up on the site, and they put it up on the internet, and then you had all these fans, ‘It's better than Collision will ever be. It's actually a great show.’ Meanwhile, you actually hear from people in NXT that are like, ‘Yeah that show's just terrible. It was just terrible,’” Alvarez said.
Despite Alvarez’s strong reaction — and his claim that some within NXT shared the same opinion — the broader fan response appears to have been more mixed than overwhelmingly negative.
As of this writing, the March 24 episode holds a 6.19 rating on Cagematch and a 3.1 rating on Dropkickd, suggesting that many viewers didn’t see the show as nearly as bad as Alvarez described.
The episode itself featured several storyline developments tied to NXT Stand & Deliver. Ricky Saints faced Tony D’Angelo in a match that helped set up a Fatal 4-Way for the NXT Championship. Johnny Gargano also picked up a Gauntlet Eliminator victory to earn a shot at the NXT North American Championship after Candice LeRae pushed him onto Shiloh Hill during the match.
Other segments included Tatum Paxley spending much of the episode hunting down Blake Monroe, along with a face-to-face confrontation between Sol Ruca and Zaria that helped continue their ongoing rivalry.
While opinions on the show clearly vary, Alvarez’s comments — especially the claim that some within NXT shared his view — have added another layer of discussion around the March 24 episode and how it was received behind the scenes.
