Just half an hour before NXT went live on April 1, WWE dropped an unexpected twist—and fans aren’t sure if it’s real or just an April Fools’ stunt.
In a surprise video posted to NXT’s official Twitter account, Stevie Turner and Robert Stone ran down the confirmed lineup for the night’s show. But things took a strange turn when they turned to Blake Howard, who was in the background of the video.
Turner and Stone informed Howard that he would be joining the commentary team for the night—directly from Ava’s office. The moment felt totally unplanned, and Howard’s reaction made it all the more curious.
There’s no word yet on whether this was a one-off bit for April Fools’ Day or if WWE is actually testing something out with Howard on commentary. What makes it even more unusual is that there’s no precedent—nothing like this has happened in recent NXT memory.
It adds a layer of unpredictability to an already packed show featuring Trick Williams and Oba Femi’s confrontation and a North American Title match between Shawn Spears and Ricky Saints.
WWE hasn’t followed up with any clarification on the guest commentary move, but fans will be paying close attention to what unfolds during the broadcast.
