JD McDonagh had a solid run in NXT, but he was eventually called up to the main roster back in 2023, where he tried to join The Judgment Day, but he was constantly rejected. He ultimately joined the faction after months of effort, but it appears WWE didn’t have concrete plans for him to join the group.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, JD McDonagh was asked how he was even pitched to join The Judgment Day. McDonagh noted that when he joined the main roster, he was told that he would interact with Judgment Day as part of his introduction to see how fans reacted. Since he already had a connection with Finn Balor, it made sense to work with them.
McDonagh revealed that there was never a concrete plan to bring him up from NXT specifically to join Judgment Day. However, as he worked with the group, the chemistry was there and it felt like a good fit. In the end, Damian Priest officially brought him into the faction.
“I was just told when I came up to the main roster, ‘We’re gonna have you brush off Judgment Day, and that’ll be the way we introduce you and see how the fans take it.’ There was a link between me and Finn that we could work with.
But I don’t think it was like, ‘We’re bringing JD up from NXT, and we’ve got this spot in Judgment Day for him.’ Wasn’t concrete. I think that was just my way in, and I had good chemistry with the whole group, to be honest. Yeah, it seemed like a good fit, and it ended up with me getting inducted by Priest.”
JD McDonagh remains a part of The Judgment Day alongside Finn Balor, Carlito, Dominik Mysterio, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. While he’s out of action due to injury, there is no doubt he is an integral part of the faction, so we’ll have to see what WWE has planned for him once he comes back.
Do you think WWE should have had a concrete plan for JD McDonagh’s main roster run, or do you prefer how his Judgment Day storyline developed naturally? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
