WWE is home to a global roster of talent, but the company is now under scrutiny for what many see as a glaring issue—the lack of Black male wrestlers featured on recent Premium Live Events. Now, we’re getting some insight into how WWE has responded internally.

On the post-Raw show, Sean Ross Sapp was asked if WWE has held any discussions about the noticeable absence of Black male singles stars on the main roster and at big shows. According to Sapp, there was talk behind the scenes a few months ago when the subject first gained traction, and WWE made a quick effort to address it.

“There was some internal conversation when it was brought up a few months ago. You saw them quickly try to rectify it,” Sapp said. But when it comes to real change? Sapp isn’t convinced. “I don’t buy the whole ‘oh well, it’s about who deserves it’ argument. You script the show — you decide who, within the context of the program, deserves it or not. So absolutely not — I haven’t heard of any heavy discussion about it or anything like that.”

The response has left fans with more questions than answers. While there seemed to be a temporary shift, the absence of names like Carmelo Hayes from major shows continues to raise eyebrows. Critics argue that it’s not just about “earning a spot” when the entire structure is predetermined. It’s about who the company chooses to elevate—and when.

This conversation cuts deeper than just screen time. It reflects how WWE approaches representation and whether or not the system is set up to truly include everyone. Fans are still waiting to see if WWE will make meaningful changes or if this issue will continue to be quietly ignored.

WWE can’t afford to sidestep the conversation much longer—not when so many viewers are paying attention.
