Private Party might be done with AEW—and WWE is already watching.
The former AEW World Tag Team Champions haven’t been seen on AEW programming since January, when they lost the titles to The Hurt Syndicate. And now, their future in the company looks uncertain.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, their contracts are coming to an end very soon.
“Private Party’s AEW deals are up very soon,” Meltzer reported.
While some fans assumed injuries were keeping them off TV, that’s not the case. Sources previously noted the duo was simply taking time off and even worked an independent match back in March. AEW hasn’t used them regularly since their brief title reign, and many fans feel the company dropped the ball on the team after they beat The Young Bucks on the October 30 episode of Dynamite.
But here’s where things take a turn. In an update this week, Fightful Select reported that WWE had preliminary interest in Private Party as early as June—before they even knew when the team’s AEW deals would expire.
“We’ve not been told if they’ve been approached either for new contracts or by WWE,” the report added.
As of now, it’s unclear if AEW plans to extend their deals, add injury time, or let them walk. But with WWE lurking in the background, the clock might be ticking on their next big move.
