Brock Lesnar returned to the WWE fold at SummerSlam, and nobody saw it coming. That was quickly followed by fan backlash, but that resentment wasn’t kept just in the fan base. It was apparently felt backstage as well.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Brock Lesnar’s return sparked internal backlash. Some women on staff were reportedly expressing frustration, as one even described feeling “disgusted” in private conversations.
While Brock Lesnar’s appearance did receive a live reaction in the building, members of the production team reportedly felt the momentum did not carry beyond the first week. Several viewed his segment with R-Truth as embarrassing and not beneficial to the overall product.
It was also noted that there was no internal discussion among staff about the ongoing lawsuit or the allegations surrounding Lesnar following his return. We will have to see how all of that pans out for the Beast Incarnate.
As we all know, Brock Lesnar went on to absolutely destroy John Cena at WrestlePalooza. Now that he is coming off of a win from the Greatest of All Time, fans have to wonder how he will be booked next.
In her lawsuit, Janel Grant accused Vince McMahon of offering her to Brock Lesnar for sex in 2021. That led to Lesnar getting scrubbed from WWE 2K25 and WWE history for over a year.
WWE has promoted Brock Lesnar in the graphic for next year’s WrestleMania already. Only time will tell how he gets booked, but it appears that he will be around for the company to use as a special attraction whenever they see fit.
