Kendal Grey is quickly becoming one of WWE’s breakout names on the Evolve brand, but fans have already started stacking her up against one of the all‑time greats, Kurt Angle. While Grey respects the Olympic Gold Medalist’s legendary career, she made it clear in a new interview that she doesn’t want to live under anyone else’s shadow.

When asked during her appearance on Muscle Memory how she deals with being compared to Angle, Grey admitted that she’s honored but determined to stand apart.

“Well, I definitely don’t have a gold medal at the Olympics. I’ll tell you that. So… and, you know, I’m a female, so I don’t know.”

She explained that her goal is to bring her own unique background and style into WWE’s women’s division rather than copy what came before.

“I think for me, I think being compared to him is like—obviously he’s one of the greats, so it is a cool, you know, comparison. But I try to just be different. I think for women’s wrestling in the women’s division, not many people come from an amateur wrestling background. So, I would like to bring that into the women’s division.”

Grey doubled down by stressing she doesn’t want to feel boxed in by comparisons, even if they come from a place of respect.

“And obviously women and men—even in amateur wrestling—they wrestle so different. So, I’m just, you know, trying to be different. I hope that I can, you know, bring my own personality into it, you know, and just… I don’t know, just have fun with it.”

Finally, she delivered the line that sums up her approach to building a WWE career on her own terms.

“I don’t want to be compared to someone or feel like I have to live up to someone’s, you know, experience. I just want to have my own experience and have fun, you know.”

Kendal Grey’s determination to step out of the shadow of past legends shows just how serious she is about creating her own mark in WWE. With her undefeated amateur background and fast rise in Evolve, the pressure is on—but if her mindset is any indication, she’s ready for it.
