WWE had plans to kick off something big with Andrade on their European tour—but it never made it to air.
According to a new update from Backstage Pass, a planned segment involving Nick Aldis and Andrade was cut from the March 21 episode of SmackDown in Bologna, Italy.
During a recent Q&A, WrestleVotes dropped the scoop: “I can go back to the SmackDown three weeks ago, the one from Italy. Written into the show before the Liv Morgan–Jade Cargill match, there was supposed to be a backstage segment with Nick Aldis telling Andrade that new talent was coming to SmackDown and that he wanted him to work with them first, but that segment got cut.”
The segment wasn’t pushed to the following week either, and right now, it’s not scheduled for any upcoming episode. That leaves the storyline—and a potential Andrade vs. Rey Fenix showdown—completely up in the air.
For now, what’s confirmed is that Rey Fenix is set to debut on the April 4 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. His opponent hasn’t been announced yet, but with Andrade involved in early talks, fans are already speculating whether WWE will circle back to the originally planned angle.
WrestleVotes added, “It was not supposed to be on last week’s show, so I don’t know where it stands. However, that would indicate to me that at the very least, they had plans for Andrade vs. Rey Fenix. We’ll have to see if that happens.”
Will WWE deliver the Andrade vs. Rey Fenix dream match this Friday? Or are those plans shelved for good? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know who you’d want to see Fenix face in his SmackDown debut.
