WWE Was Considering Having Samoa Joe Leave SummerSlam WWE Champion

There apparently was talk at one point about having Samoa Joe defeat AJ Styles at this past weekend for the WWE Championship title at SummerSlam.

Mike Johnson reported on the latest installment of PWInsider Elite Audio that the company we considering putting the strap on him but for unknown reasons they didn’t go forward with it.

“There was consideration for Joe winning the belt by they obviously that’s not the final finish they went with.”

The feud between Joe and Styles is expected to continue coming out of SummerSlam with a possible rematch between the two at next month’s Hell in a Cell event. It will be interesting to see if WWE goes back on the idea of putting the title on Joe.
