It’s official — Goldberg’s last match ever is locked in, and WWE just dropped the confirmation fans have been waiting on. The company has announced that the July 12 Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta will feature Goldberg’s final in-ring appearance, as he takes on World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER in a headliner that now carries retirement-level weight.
The news was made public through an official WWE press release on June 20, ending weeks of speculation following Goldberg’s surprise RAW appearance where he challenged GUNTHER face-to-face.
“WWE®, part of TKO Group Holdings (NYSE: TKO), today announced that individual event tickets for Saturday Night’s Main Event® on Saturday, July 12 – headlined by Goldberg’s final match versus WWE World Heavyweight champion GUNTHER – and Evolution® on Sunday, July 13, in Atlanta will go on sale starting Wednesday, June 25 at 10am ET/7am PT via Ticketmaster.com.”
That confirmation puts to rest the lingering question about whether Goldberg was making a brief return or truly closing the book. Now, there’s no doubt — this is it. The Hall of Famer will walk into State Farm Arena for one last spear, one last Jackhammer, and one final showdown in his hometown.
This update adds new layers to what fans saw on the June 16 episode of RAW, which aired live on Netflix. GUNTHER had just finished a victory lap promo after beating Jey Uso for the World Title, when Goldberg’s music hit to a deafening roar.
With WWE confirming this is Goldberg’s official farewell, speculation is already swirling. Will he go out with gold around his waist? Or did WWE just reveal the ending by making the retirement public?
Goldberg’s last match, Evolution’s return, and even a throwback Great American Bash are all part of a loaded weekend for WWE in Atlanta. But for fans of the man who made “Who’s Next?” a catchphrase, July 12 now has a whole new meaning.
