WWE dropped the ball—and Xavier Woods was quick to call it out.
During the April 11 episode of SmackDown, WWE confirmed that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will challenge Erik and Ivar of the Viking Raiders for the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 41. While social media graphics promoting the match were accurate, the official WWE.com preview article made a glaring error: it listed the wrong challengers.
Instead of Woods and Kingston, WWE.com bizarrely included Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins—aka the current WWE Tag Team Champions, not World Tag Team contenders—as the challengers for the Viking Raiders’ belts.
Xavier Woods didn’t let it slide. Taking to X/Twitter, Woods wrote: “After we win the titles at #Wrestlemania the disrespect comes to an end. #ThankGodForTheNewDay”
WWE later corrected the error, now properly listing Erik, Ivar, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods in the match preview.
It’s worth noting the importance of distinguishing between WWE’s World Tag Team Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship. The latter is currently held by The Street Profits, who are scheduled to defend their titles against The Motor City Machine Guns on SmackDown the night before WrestleMania 41.
The confusion reflects a broader issue with WWE’s current tag team title structure, especially since the split of unified titles. Have you been keeping up with how WWE differentiates between the World and WWE Tag Team Titles since their reintroduction? Would you like a breakdown of how they’ve been booking these two divisions?
Do you think WWE’s tag division has become too convoluted, or does the layered structure keep things interesting? Drop your thoughts, predictions, or questions in the comments—we want to hear what you think about the build-up to WrestleMania 41.
