There has been a lot of talk about Alberto Del Rio possibly going back to WWE after his AAA exit. While there’s no guarantee of that happening, it appears WWE is allegedly considering a controversial gimmick for Del Rio’s return.

While speaking on Lucha Libre Online, Hugo Savinovich talked about Alberto Del Rio after his exit from AAA. He said that people in WWE are impressed by Alberto, including big names like The Undertaker.

Hugo mentioned he was one of the first to report that The Undertaker was at the AAA event in Juan de la Barrera. That matters, because when someone like The Undertaker hugs you and says, “I know what you’re doing,” it’s not something he says lightly.

Hugo also said it’s not just his opinion. According to him, Wrestling Observer confirmed that many people in WWE, wrestlers, creative team members, and others are supporting the idea of Alberto coming back.

“There are people in WWE impressed with Alberto and how he carries himself in Mexico—including The Undertaker. I was among the first to say The Undertaker was present at the AAA event in Juan de la Barrera. That matters. When Undertaker gives you a hug and tells you, “I know what you’re doing,” he doesn’t say things he doesn’t mean.

This isn’t just Hugo talking. I can say that not only did Wrestling Observer confirm many within WWE are advocating for Alberto’s return, but our entire Lucha Libre Online team supports what I’m telling you. Wrestlers, creative team members—they all know Alberto deserves it.”

Hugo noted that Alberto has earned the respect of Mexican wrestling fans, who are known to be some of the most passionate in the world. He defended titles not just in Mexico, but in places like Qatar, Puerto Rico, and the United States.

Hugo stated that Del Rio is more than just a wrestler since he’s a star. That’s why some important people in WWE are saying, “He’s ready.” To them, Alberto is a WWE product through and through.

“Alberto earned the respect of one of the toughest wrestling crowds in the world: the Mexican audience. He defended that title in Qatar, Puerto Rico, the U.S. He’s a wrestler. He’s a star That’s why people inside WWE—strong voices—are saying: “He’s ready.” Alberto Del Rio is a WWE product.”

Savinovich revealed that WWE has even talked about giving Del Rio a new version of his old character. One idea is to bring him back with his assistant and the Mexican flag, like before. But then there’s a twist since he takes off the Mexican flag shirt to reveal an American flag and says a new catchphrase: “Make WWE Great Again.”

Del Rio would tell people he’s no longer from Mexico or San Luis Potosí, but now from Washington, D.C. It’s a bold move, especially for a Mexican wrestler, but Savinovich believes fans would understand it’s just part of the show.

“They’ve even talked about refreshing his gimmick—bringing him in with his usual assistant, waving the Mexican flag. But then—plot twist—he takes off the Mexican flag shirt and reveals an American flag with a new tag line: “Make WWE Great Again.” He says he’s no longer from Mexico or San Luis Potosí. That’s a heavy line for a Mexican—but fans know it’s storytelling. He says, “I’m Alberto Del Rio from Washington, D.C.” That’s the gimmick. It’s a refresh.”

While Del Rio’s future in WWE hasn’t been confirmed, it’s clear there’s interest behind the scenes. It was reported that there are no plans for Del Rio to go to the U.S., but that could change. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see if Del Rio does come back to WWE eventually since the door isn’t completely shut right now.
