Just two hours before the May 2nd episode of Friday Night SmackDown went live, WWE dropped a surprise announcement—and fans are fired up.

Taking to X/Twitter, WWE revealed that “@ArcherOfInfamy will go head-to-head with @RealLAKnight TONIGHT on #SmackDown!” The post confirmed that Undisputed WWE Champion Damian Priest would be competing against LA Knight in what instantly became one of the most anticipated matchups of the night.

The match was not advertised in the original lineup. With tensions high and Knight still chasing main-event gold, this one could shake up the road to the Premium Live Event.

Tonight’s SmackDown was already shaping up to deliver, especially with Aleister Black making his in-ring return against The Miz. Black recently laid out The A-Lister with a crushing Black Mass on last week’s episode, and now he’s looking to officially kick off his return with a statement win.

Also on tap is an appearance from Randy Orton, who has a title clash with John Cena set for Backlash. Last week, Orton sent a brutal message by dropping Cena with a surprise RKO—fans are expecting more smoke tonight as their storyline continues to escalate.

In another major development, Nia Jax is set to return to WWE television. She’s expected to address WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton during the broadcast. With Stratton gaining momentum each week, Jax’s return could shake up the entire women’s division heading into Backlash.

With WWE stacking the deck last minute, tonight’s show is primed for drama and momentum-building ahead of next weekend’s Backlash event.
