CM Punk isn’t just representing Chicago inside the ring — he’s working behind the scenes to bring WWE to one of the city’s most iconic venues.

During a recent appearance on Rock 95.5, the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion confirmed that discussions are already happening between WWE officials and Wrigley Field about hosting a major WWE event. Punk made it clear that interest exists on both sides, but the complexity of WWE’s production creates unique challenges.

“Oh yes. I’ve had discussions with some executives, I’ll say. Yeah, they 100% want it.”

While concerts can be scheduled more easily, Punk explained that WWE events require significantly more preparation due to the scale of the production.

“The hard thing for us is the scheduling and getting in. We need load in and load out day. Believe it or not, it’s probably a lot easier for Wrigley to book Green Day because they don’t have the man hours for load in.”

He emphasized that WWE’s setup involves far more equipment, staff, and infrastructure than most live events.

“They are doing a stage, some sound, and that’s technically it. You need a little more time to roll our trucks in there and set things up because our production is that much more than a rock concert.”

Despite the obstacles, talks are ongoing. Punk pointed directly to the Chicago Cubs schedule as the biggest obstacle standing in the way of making it happen.

“We’ve been in discussions with it, it’s just going to make it so much easier to get it done if there is no baseball.”

WWE has increasingly leaned into stadium shows over the past decade, hosting major events at baseball venues like Chase Field, Minute Maid Park, and T-Mobile Park. Bringing a Premium Live Event to Wrigley Field would mark a historic moment — especially with Punk at the center of it in his hometown.

With Punk set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Bálor at Elimination Chamber in Chicago, his push to bring WWE to Wrigley Field adds another layer to his mission of cementing his legacy both inside and outside the ring.

If WWE does secure Wrigley Field, should it host a Premium Live Event like SummerSlam — or go all in and bring WrestleMania to Chicago?
