The way WWE is promoting the upcoming Evolution event has left a lot of people scratching their heads—and it might not be by accident.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Garrett Gonzales and Dave Meltzer didn’t hold back, blasting the company’s approach to Evolution and suggesting that WWE may be using the event as a strategic move to cause problems for rival promotions like AEW.

Gonzales kicked off the conversation by calling out how WWE’s marketing has made Evolution feel like an afterthought compared to Saturday Night’s Main Event, which takes place the same weekend.

“The Evolution show just seems to be so, so poorly promoted. And I’m sure some of it is because they’re promoting multiple events the same weekend… but I just… I can’t imagine… Saturday Night’s Main Event is the big event for the weekend, not the pay-per-view. Like, I can’t imagine why you’re promoting the show the way they’re doing and expecting it to be like, this success.”

Meltzer didn’t disagree—and pointed to WWE’s history of strategic scheduling when it comes to flooding markets and creating chaos for competitors.

“Why would you do a pay-per-view the same weekend you’re doing a Saturday Night’s Main Event? Other than… we know why.”

When Gonzales replied, “Yeah,” Meltzer doubled down on the implication.

“We know they’re trying to flood the market… cause chaos.”

Meltzer also revealed that WWE originally booked Evolution for July 5 at the Mohegan Sun, but later moved the event—a decision he believes reflects the company’s chaotic strategy.

“And it’s funny because… that show… to show what I mean by that… that show was booked for July the 5th. That show was booked for, you know, Saturday night — this weekend — tomorrow. I think maybe they looked at it and went, ‘Well, that’s not really a great night for a PLE.’ And it’s not… but the fact that that was their original night, they did book the Mohegan Sun for that show months ago, and then they moved it. So that just tells you… that’s just the reality of everything as well.”

Meltzer made it clear this isn’t about maximizing ticket sales—it’s about clogging up the calendar and limiting opportunities for other promotions to run successful events.

WWE moving Evolution next week might sound like typical schedule shuffling—but let’s be real, this is WWE we’re talking about. Flooding the calendar, creating chaos, and making life harder for their competition has always been part of the playbook. Whether this move helps or hurts Evolution remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—the timing wasn’t some innocent coincidence.
