CM Punk’s wild opening promo on WWE RAW has been one of the biggest talking points coming out of the show, but now the focus has shifted to the person listed behind the scenes as the writer for the segment.
Punk kicked off the April 6, 2026 episode of WWE RAW in Houston with a long rant aimed at Roman Reigns ahead of their WrestleMania 42 match. The promo didn’t stop with Reigns either, as Punk also took verbal shots at Pat McAfee, referenced Vince McMahon as a “weird old man,” and even called out ticket prices tied to TKO.
While fans were already debating whether Punk went off-script during the segment, a new update has now revealed who was credited with putting the promo together behind the scenes.
Fightful Select reported that Ben Saccoccio was listed as the writer for CM Punk’s promo on WWE Raw, and the segment quickly became a major point of conversation backstage.
That update adds to a promo that already had people talking. Earlier reports suggested WWE had a general direction planned for Punk’s segment, but once he got to the ring, he may have taken things in his own direction — something that made the promo feel more chaotic and unpredictable than usual.
Even without confirmed fallout, the segment clearly caught attention behind the curtain. Between the shots at Roman Reigns, the references to Vince McMahon, and the complaints about ticket pricing, it wasn’t your typical WWE opening promo. Now, with the writer’s name out there, it shows just how much planning went into something that still ended up feeling loose once Punk grabbed the microphone.
With WrestleMania 42 getting closer, this promo could end up being remembered as one of the moments that pushed the rivalry with Roman Reigns even further — while also shining a light on the creative minds working behind the scenes.
