WrestleMania 42 ticket sales aren’t just slow — they’re now trending in the wrong direction, even after WWE attempted to boost interest with a temporary price cut.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that sales have actually gotten worse compared to the previous week, with little to no response from fans during the Valentine’s Day weekend discount.
“There has been little new regarding WrestleMania at this point. No new matches have even been hinted at. Ticket sales are actually worse than we had last week. Over Valentine’s Day weekend, all seat prices were cut only for the weekend meaning 2/13 to 2/16. There appeared to be zero movement at the lower prices and in fact, last week’s number was a higher estimate than was the case.”
Current figures show the April 18 show sitting at 35,690 tickets sold, while April 19 is at 36,372. Combined, that puts WrestleMania 42 down 17,252 tickets — or 19.3 percent behind last year’s pace at this same point.
Even with those numbers, WWE is still charging premium prices. The current get-in price is $264 for night one and $276 for night two at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, contributing to what Meltzer described as “astronomical” gates despite slower sales.
One person within WWE reportedly questioned whether fans are willing to pay those prices.
“The audience is there. Are they inclined to pay ten gazillion dollars for tickets?”
Last year’s WrestleMania 41 event in the same venue brought in over 113,000 tickets sold and more than $66 million in revenue. While projections suggest WrestleMania 42 could still reach around 51,000 fans per night if momentum picks up, the current trend has raised internal concern.
WWE officials held a multi-department meeting on February 11 to address the issue, exploring new promotional strategies. However, there are no plans to permanently lower ticket prices at this time.
Factors behind the slowdown include running the same Las Vegas venue for a second straight year and a reported 65 percent increase in the cost of the cheapest tickets compared to WrestleMania 41.
With sales now declining week-to-week and no major matches announced yet, WWE faces growing pressure to turn things around before its biggest show of the year.
