For all the talk about WrestleMania 42 being stacked from top to bottom, a new backstage update suggests much less is actually locked in than fans have been led to believe.
According to Fightful Select, WWE sources say many of the matches that were previously described as “original plans” for WrestleMania haven’t even been formally presented yet — and significant portions of the card are still being actively discussed.
“We were told by WWE sources that a number of the ‘original plans’ for WrestleMania have simply not been presented, and that a lot of the WrestleMania card is still being discussed.”
That update directly cools off recent reports suggesting several major bouts were already locked in for Las Vegas, including Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, Becky Lynch vs. AJ Lee for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, and potential heavyweight clashes involving Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi.
As of now, only one match is officially confirmed. WWE made it clear this past Monday on RAW that CM Punk will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42. Everything else — no matter how heavily teased or reported — remains subject to change.
That includes Rollins’ expected return from a shoulder injury, AJ Lee’s long-awaited singles showcase, and Lesnar’s WrestleMania status after his brief but impactful Royal Rumble appearance. None of those matches have been officially greenlit, despite internal speculation and creative direction pointing that way.
With WrestleMania 42 set for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium, WWE still has time — but the latest update makes one thing clear: much of the card is still very much up in the air.
Do you think WWE keeping so much of WrestleMania 42 undecided this close to the event is smart long-term storytelling, or does it risk overpromising to fans? Drop your thoughts and leave your feedback below.
