The Evolution 2 Premium Live Event is just around the corner, but behind the scenes, things haven’t exactly been picture-perfect.
Despite WWE announcing a strong lineup and bringing back legends for the July 13th show, not every female star is thrilled about the event—even some of the top names reportedly weren’t on board.
During a recent episode of The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp opened up about the internal reactions to WWE’s all-women’s event. While some talent were excited about the sequel to 2018’s Evolution, others didn’t see it the same way. Sapp noted that frustration from past treatment may have left a sour taste for certain talent at the top of the card.
“Not all the women wanted an Evolution show. There certainly are some of them, but listen, there are also women high up on the card who felt differently,” Sapp said.
He then recalled a moment that stuck with him—an unnamed WWE Superstar threw shade at how the company handled Evolution 1’s finish compared to all-male events.
“Before they added the last women’s match to—I can’t remember if it was Saudi or Saturday Night’s Main Event—but one of them said to me, ‘Oh, do you think they’ll have all the men come out and do a curtain call at the end of this all-men’s event, like they had us do?’ And I was like, ‘Damn, okay.’”
There’s also growing concern backstage that if Evolution 2 doesn’t succeed, the blame will unfairly fall on the women. Some fear the company is setting them up to fail, creating more pressure than celebration for the returning show.
Still, WWE has pulled together a packed card with plenty of returning legends and high-profile bouts. But the tension behind the scenes is very real—and it could shape the future of all-women’s shows going forward.
