Could William Regal finally lace up his boots one more time? Josh Barnett isn’t ruling it out—and he’s made it clear the ball is in Regal’s court.
During a recent appearance on Ringsiders Wrestling, Barnett revealed he’s had conversations with the former NXT GM about potentially stepping into the Bloodsport ring. While Regal hasn’t competed since 2013, his presence in pro wrestling hasn’t faded—serving as a key figure in AEW’s Blackpool Combat Club and appearing regularly on TV.
Barnett didn’t mince words about leaving the decision completely up to Regal. “You think I haven’t had some conversations with William Regal about, ‘If you should feel spry. You know…’” he said. He then made it clear that whatever Regal wants, it’s done.
“I say the ball is in his court, not as like a challenge or anything like that. It’s just, he’s the boss here. If he tells me it’s time, done. If he says, ‘Eh, I’m better off spectating.’ Done. Whatever he wants, he’s correct. That’s the way I see it.”
While Regal hasn’t hinted at a return, his connection to Bloodsport isn’t random. He’s been spotted attending several events over the years, supporting a unique brand of no-ropes, submission-heavy wrestling that fits his style.
And there’s also a family tie—his son, Charlie Dempsey, has been making waves in the Bloodsport scene and is booked to face Shinya Aoki during WrestleMania 41 weekend. That family presence could be just the nudge Regal needs.
For now, it’s all speculation. But if William Regal decides to to he wants to go, it sounds like Josh Barnett will have a spot ready.
