Will Ospreay didn’t say a word about Triple H on this week’s AEW Dynamite—but his actions said plenty.
During the May 21 episode from the Rio Rancho Events Center in Albuquerque, Ospreay met Hangman Page face-to-face to promote their upcoming Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final at Double or Nothing. After a heated exchange and some personal words from both men, Ospreay ended the segment with a beer in hand—and a very familiar visual.
After taking a sip, Ospreay leaned his head back and spit water into the air, Triple H-style. It wasn’t a promo shot. It wasn’t called out. But fans online immediately picked up on the reference.
The water spit comes months after Ospreay previously responded to Triple H’s comments about wrestlers avoiding the “grind” of WWE. Although Triple H never mentioned anyone by name, Ospreay later claimed on the Insight podcast, “He was [talking about me]. I’ve got people that I won’t throw under the bus, saying, ‘Yeah, it was about me.’”
Ospreay later fired back on AEW television, saying Triple H got to the top by “grinding on the boss’s daughter.” He admitted later that line may have gone too far, but the history is there.
Back to Dynamite—Ospreay and Hangman’s exchange wasn’t just personal, it was about legacy. Page said he “needs this” win after a long road of setbacks and wants to earn the respect of his family. Ospreay, meanwhile, talked about constantly traveling, jetlag, and how badly he wants to bring the AEW World Title into Forbidden Door in London.
Before it all ended, Ospreay downed his beer, threw in the water spit, and left the ring with Hangman standing tall beside him.
The Owen Hart Cup final will now headline Double or Nothing, with the winner earning a shot at the AEW World Title at All In on July 12 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Was the water spit just a nod, or something more? And who are you backing at Double or Nothing—Ospreay or Hangman? Sound off in the comments.
