Will Ospreay will be taking time off after AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door so that he can undergo surgery. As a consequence of his current injuries, Ospreay believes he might be forced to cut back on his high-flying moves after surgery.
While speaking to CBS Sports, Will Ospreay admitted that he would need surgery after Forbidden Door but still wanted to keep pushing himself in the ring. He explained that his stubborn pride makes it hard to step away from the high-flying style he’s known for, even though that’s what got him into his predicament in the first place.
“I have that stubborn pride about myself that I would love to come back in the ring and continue doing what I was doing,” Ospreay said. “But I feel like that’s what’s happened, and that’s the reason why I’ve gone down this route…”
Ospreay said he isn’t ready to give up that part of his high-flying offense because he feels it should be on his own terms but doesn’t know if it’s on the cards. He hopes to return and pick up where he left off. If he can’t, he’s prepared to adapt like other greats before him, mentioning Jushin Thunder Liger and AJ Styles as examples.
“I might have to kiss this part of my high-flying offense goodbye now. It’s something that I’m not ready to let go. I’ll be honest with you, I’m not ready to let go of that side of me because I think that should be done on my terms. I don’t know if that’s on the card. So I’ve got to hope that after this, I can still pick up where I left off. But if not, all the greats have done it. Justin Thunder Liger’s done it. AJ Styles has done it. I call myself the Billy G.O.A.T. for a reason. I think I can adapt.”
As reported earlier, there is internal concern over Will Ospreay’s health ahead of the Forbidden Door event. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see whether the Aerial Assassin will have to cut back on his high flying moves once he comes back from surgery, as he might be out for a long time.
