Will Ospreay might be one of AEW’s biggest stars today, but he hasn’t forgotten the opportunity Paul Heyman once offered him—and he’d still say yes to being one of Heyman’s guys under the right circumstances.
During an interview with Josh Martinez on Superstar Crossover, Ospreay was asked how he’d respond to becoming a “Paul Heyman Guy” if nobody got hurt or offended and it was all hypothetical. Ospreay didn’t hesitate.
“Um, listen… yeah, sure. Like Paul gave me that incredible moment once upon a time where he offered me an Evolve deal years ago. I didn’t take it. The money was s**, to be honest with you. But it was lovely.”*
Back in 2016, Heyman offered Ospreay a contract with EVOLVE during Heyman’s UK tour. Ospreay ultimately passed on the deal and committed to his path with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Nearly a decade later, he’s one of the top stars in AEW, while Heyman remains a driving force in WWE.
Despite turning him down all those years ago, Ospreay still holds Heyman in the highest regard.
“But I love Paul. I grew up watching him, man. I’ve always admired his ability to evolve his character and to get into certain roles. He’s the man.”
The idea of Ospreay being managed by Paul Heyman is a wild what-if for fans of both AEW and WWE—and it shows the kind of respect even the top AEW talent still have for the mastermind behind the likes of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
