Will Ospreay isn’t just aiming for main event status—he wants to lead AEW into its future.
During a conversation on Busted Open Radio, Ospreay revealed that his passion for AEW goes beyond great matches or crowd reactions. He’s thinking about leadership, longevity, and authenticity—traits he believes make a true face of the company.
Co-host Dave LaGreca brought up a topic many fans and insiders have debated: could Ospreay be the next long-term face of AEW? Ospreay didn’t dodge the question—he embraced it and gave a look into his mindset.
“It’s essential. I mean, like for me, I think the more that I show vulnerability and the more like… I know not one of the criticisms I get—not just about my hair—but like about dressing appropriate for the role that I want to be as like one of the top guys.”
He went on to explain that part of his appeal is how grounded and real he tries to be, even in how he dresses and presents himself in interviews.
“And I do understand that to an extent. But I feel like the more authentic that I dress, the more that people relate to me. I just did an interview over in a new studio… I can’t remember what it was called for the life of me… but like I feel like because I am dressed in a certain way, I look more presentable. I’m way more… I come down a level, and it’s more like I’m way more humble, I’m way more approachable in those senses.”
For Ospreay, it all ties into his greater mission in AEW. He’s not just putting on great matches—he wants to build the company from the inside out.
“And that way, I think that’s the reason why a lot of people have gravitated more towards me in that sense. But I have always longed and wanted the responsibility of being the captain.”
“And I feel like right now, I’m on a hot streak. I don’t think there’s been a bad pay-per-view match that I’ve done. I don’t think there’s a bad match that I’ve done. I think I’ve come in with the right attitude. I’ve always got a smile on my face, even when there are times when my days have been really rotten. I’m tired. But I come in with the attitude like, I want this place to succeed.”
He finished by driving home his goal: to help AEW grow through heart, hard work, and staying real.
“I want AEW to be one of the best professional wrestling promotions out there in the world today. I want everyone to rely on wrestling, and I want people to rely on our storytelling. And I really do feel like AEW—we’ve found a really nice mix of incredible wrestling and great storytelling now.”
Will Ospreay isn’t chasing glory just for himself—he’s stepping up to be the foundation AEW can build on. With words like these and the passion to back them up in the ring, he’s proving why fans and veterans alike believe he’s ready for the role.
