Will Ospreay believes WrestleMania heading to Saudi Arabia in 2027 could open the door for AEW to give fans in the United States something big — and affordable — during that same weekend.
With WWE set to hold WrestleMania overseas next year, many fans in the U.S. won’t have access to the usual flood of indie shows tied to WrestleMania weekend. While speaking on the YoJoshMartinez podcast, Ospreay said he hopes AEW takes advantage of the moment by running its own fan-friendly events.
Ospreay explained that the idea has already crossed his mind, especially knowing that thousands of wrestling fans typically gather in one U.S. city during WrestleMania weekend. He believes there’s still demand for shows in the U.S., even if WWE’s biggest event is taking place internationally.
“Mate, I’ll be honest with you. Like, it has crossed my mind, especially hearing about like it was going to be going over to Saudi Arabia. Like, why not? Like, do you know what I mean? Like, there's going to be a bunch of wrestling fans that would usually flock to whatever stadium, whatever city that they're in. And I think it's just—I think it's something that we should heavily consider.”
He then made it clear that his hope is for AEW to create a full weekend of wrestling that doesn’t price fans out, while also giving independent promotions a chance to be part of the action.
“I hope our boss is considering it because I think the best thing that we could do is on that day that WrestleMania is over in Saudi Arabia, make affordable tickets for one of the greatest wrestling shows ever and make it a whole weekend. Like do Ring of Honor on the Saturday, help out a bunch of indie promotions on the Friday. Like do you know what I mean? I just think we could definitely formulate such a great affordable time for wrestling fans and wrestling families as well.”
Ospreay also suggested that skipping this opportunity wouldn’t make sense, especially with fans likely staying in the United States instead of traveling overseas for WrestleMania.
“And I think if we don’t look at that, then what’s the point of even doing it?”
With WrestleMania officially scheduled for Saudi Arabia in 2027, Ospreay’s comments show that some wrestlers are already thinking about how companies like AEW could step in and give fans another major wrestling weekend at home.
