Will Ospreay is making a major change to his in-ring style after neck surgery, and it means one of his signature moves is officially gone.
While speaking on the Wrestling Brain podcast, Ospreay revealed that he has removed the Shooting Star Press from his arsenal because he no longer trusts his neck to handle the risk. During the interview, Ospreay explained that returning from surgery forced him to rethink how he approaches matches. He said certain moves had to be removed completely, especially ones that require extreme neck movement.
“When I approach my matches now I like trying keep in check about how how my anxiety is feeling on stuff like that. So like for certain certain moves now like I've I've just got rid of now. Like I I can't do the Shooting Star Press anymore because to do that like I need to be able to fully put my head back. I I can't do it anymore.”
He went on to explain exactly why the move is too dangerous now, noting that the physical motion behind it puts too much stress on his neck. While he can still do other flips, the Shooting Star Press crosses a line he isn’t willing to test anymore.
“So like to be able to throw my entire body weight behind it I really need to arch my back and look back and I just don't trust it anymore. Like a Moon salt is easy. Front flip is easy but just the idea of like pushing myself forward and like overextending my neck is just something that I don't want to I don't want to risk it. I don't want to test it.”
This is a big shift for Ospreay, whose fast and risky style helped make him one of the most talked-about performers in wrestling. Dropping a move like the Shooting Star Press shows just how serious his injury was and how focused he is on protecting his future.
Ospreay has already returned to the ring following surgery, but his comments make it clear that staying healthy is now a top priority as he continues his career.
