WWE may have Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker penciled in internally for WrestleMania 42, but an update reveals the company is still deliberately keeping one foot on the brake.
While the match is listed on WWE’s internal schedule and Rollins is expected to be cleared in time for Las Vegas, the latest discussion on Wrestling Observer Radio explains why WWE has refused to fully lock the angle in on television. The hesitation isn’t creative indecision — it’s protection.
During the discussion, Garrett Gonzales noted that WWE’s current booking of Bron Breakker strongly suggests Rollins is on track for a WrestleMania return. Dave Meltzer agreed, but made it clear WWE is operating on expectation, not certainty.
“They’re going with that idea. Yeah, I think that they think it’s going to happen and he’s going to be ready. I don’t know if it’s 100%. You know, you can always, you know, there’s always changes.”
That uncertainty is exactly why WWE introduced the masked attacker angle at the Royal Rumble instead of outright confirming Rollins’ involvement. According to Meltzer, the mask wasn’t just a tease — it was a built-in escape hatch.
“But I, you know, that elimination… I mean the thing is, is that they can unmask it. Like if he’s not going to be ready, they can unmask it. It can be anyone. You know what I mean? It doesn’t have to be Seth Rollins.”
Even with that safeguard in place, Meltzer stressed that WWE’s intended direction hasn’t changed.
“But Seth Rollins is the idea. Yes.”
The storyline logic lines up cleanly. Bron Breakker was the one who took Rollins out of action in storyline, Rollins’ heel run had already run its course, and the angle naturally sets up a revenge-driven babyface return.
“Which makes sense storyline wise. I mean Bron’s the one who put Seth out of action, you know, in storyline. So you know, Seth has to come back as a baby face now after all that heel stuff… again against Paul Heyman.”
That’s the key reason for WWE’s hesitation: they’re confident in the story, confident in the destination, but not willing to hard-lock the reveal until Rollins’ medical status is fully confirmed. If clearance comes late — or doesn’t come at all — the masked angle allows WWE to pivot instantly without collapsing the feud.
For now, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker remains the planned WrestleMania 42 matchup, but WWE is keeping the parachute packed as the clock ticks toward WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. With Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk already locked in, Rollins’ situation stands out as the one major match WWE still isn’t ready to fully commit to publicly.
Do you think WWE is right to hesitate and protect the Rollins angle until the last possible moment, or should they go all-in now if the match is truly the plan? Drop your thoughts below and weigh in.
