Shotzi Blackheart isn’t in WWE anymore but she made a lot of memories during her time in the company. This included the time she debuted a more psychotic character but that was abruptly dropped and now Blackheart has explained why WWE dropped the character in the first place.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Shotzi Blackheart explained why WWE dropped her psychotic character. She said she wanted to do something completely different. After Bayley shaved her head, she thought it was the right time to become a crazier version of herself. However, WWE didn’t like the idea and told her to just be herself instead.
“I was like, I wanted to change up my character and be a complete psycho. Bayley shaved my head and I just lost it. They were immediately like, ‘No, no more of that. We want you to be real.’ I was like, ‘Oh, I thought this was going in a completely different direction.’ Yeah, they were not into it at all—thought it was too much.”
Before that, she had been doing segments with Bayley where she laughed manically and chased her around with clippers. She believed they were building toward a crazier version of her character. That’s why she cut a promo before WarGames 2023, acting that way but the character change stopped there. WWE decided they didn’t want her to go in that direction after all.
“I was doing all that stuff with Bayley beforehand—laughing manically, chasing her around with clippers—I thought we were on the same page. I thought my character was going on a more psychotic route. So I cut that promo before WarGames and that’s why you see me do that and then it doesn’t come back. Because they’re like, ‘No, we don’t want you to do that with your character, we want you to be yourself.’”
Blackheart said WWE even had her in a dark room with smoke, laughing and saying Bayley’s name over and over again. So she really thought that was the direction they wanted.
Blackheart still believes the character could have worked if they let her go all in with it. She thinks fans were just surprised because it changed so fast. Even though some people didn’t like it, she loved the idea and feels it would have worked better with more time.
“They had me laughing manically with smoke, sitting in a dark room just repeating Bayley’s name over and over again—so I thought that’s what they wanted, that was the vibe we were going for. But yeah, I still stick with that. If they had just let me run with it, people would have warmed up to me. I think people were shocked by it since it was such a quick change. I don’t care what people say—people hate on it, but I loved it. If there was a build-up, it would’ve hit differently.”
Blackheart is already thriving in the independent scene after her WWE departure, but it’s not known if she will decide to bring back her psychotic character in the future. Regardless, fans are looking forward to seeing how 2025 will turn out for Shotzi Blackheart, as the world is truly her oyster.
