Brock Lesnar coming back at WWE SummerSlam happened only after WWE Legal decided to clear him. While there’s plenty of speculation surrounding his return, the actual reason for WWE Legal finally giving Lesnar the green light has been revealed.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the big question is why WWE’s legal team changed its stance on Brock Lesnar. Meltzer then said many believe there’s no legal case against Vince McMahon, even though Janel Grant’s lawyers said that wasn’t certain and a judge said the investigation was still going after reports it was finished.

This was thought to have been dropped around the same time the SEC ended its investigation into McMahon in early January. The civil trial is still going on.

“The big unanswered question is what made WWE legal change their viewpoint on Lesnar.

The belief, despite Janel Grant’s attorneys indicating this wasn’t a sure thing and a judge ruling in the case that indicated an investigation was still going after we got word it was over, is that there is no legal case against Vince McMahon.

That was believed to have been tabled at the same time the SEC investigation of McMahon completed, which was early January. The civil trial is ongoing.”

Meltzer also thinks WWE might see the case as less of a risk now. If it goes to arbitration, anything involving Lesnar wouldn’t matter. If they expect a settlement, Lesnar’s situation probably isn’t a big issue either.

“Do they see that as less of a threat? One would think so by this action. If the case goes to arbitration, everything related to Lesnar becomes irrelevant. If they see a settlement coming, the Lesnar stuff is likely not a major factor either.”

Lots of people were really upset about Brock Lesnar’s return since the Beast Incarnate was named in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon, but it’s pretty clear that WWE Legal really doesn’t think Lesnar’s a liability now and he was free to come back.

Brock Lesnar’s return shows that WWE feels confident moving forward, even with the ongoing legal issues involving Vince McMahon. Whether this move is completely safe is still unknown. For now, the Beast is back, and WWE is ready to feature him in major storylines again, especially after he destroyed John Cena.

Do you think WWE brought Brock Lesnar back too soon, or was this the right time given the legal circumstances? Sound off in the comments.
