Many WWE careers come out of nowhere for the person involved. Hornswoggle’s tale in pro wrestling is quite a fairytale, and it’s not a short one at all.
Dylan Postl is better known as Hornswoggle to WWE fans, and he had quite a career. He was released from his contract when he was two weeks shy of his ten-year anniversary with the company. Although that hurt, he saw it coming. At this point in his career, he has a Legends contract with WWE after a career even he has to admit shouldn’t have happened.
WWE first brought Hornswoggle in as an extra, and then he tried out to be Fit Finaly’s little buddy. After two weeks, and dodging many calls from Tommy Dreamer, who was trying to offer him a WWE contract, the company brought Postl in as Little Bastard.
That Little Bastard moniker didn’t stick for long. During his appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Hornswoggle brought up how WWE changed the name, and their reasoning. It seems that WWE didn’t think that it was a good idea putting “Little Bastard” on toys and selling them to kids.
“So, my first name was Little Bastard. Yes. Then I think they quickly realized we can’t put this on a toy at Toys R Us. They literally go, ‘You’re not Little Bastard anymore, you’re Hornswoggle.’ And I go, ‘That’s probably better.'”
Hornswoggle also revealed that his name means to swindle, which is the definition of the word. He also mentioned that Fit Finlay wanted to do the idea of having a leprechaun partner in WCW, but he never got to do it. Thankfully, he waited, because it gave Dylan Postl a career.
He may wrestle as Swoggle on the indies, but he’s keeping busy. No matter what name he goes by in this stage of his career, he seems very happy about how things turned out.
