Fans were left confused when WWE abruptly canceled the contract signing between Stephanie Vaquer and IYO SKY on Raw, a segment that was supposed to set up their WWE Women’s World Championship clash at Wrestlepalooza.
Adam Pearce told viewers that Vaquer would still be ready for the September 20 event, but no explanation was given for why the segment didn’t happen. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Vaquer was dealing with a minor injury, which caused WWE to pull her from the show.
“She has a minor injury, that’s the situation. I was told by WWE that it’s a minor thing, it’s nothing to worry about, and she’s gonna be doing matches going forward. It came right from the company.”
Meltzer also noted that the details weren’t fully known earlier in the week.
“They weren’t certain about (the severity of the injury on Monday). I heard about it on Tuesday. I asked after she wasn’t there, ‘What’s going on?,’ and they just said, ‘Minor injury, she’s gonna be on the pay-per-view most likely.’”
By the following day, WWE cleared things up and confirmed that Vaquer was good to go.
“And obviously, whatever happened, she got cleared (for next week’s NXT), and that’s the deal.”
Vaquer even appeared on NXT, where she set up a match for the September 16 Homecoming episode at Full Sail University. As of now, she’s still on track to face IYO SKY at Wrestlepalooza.
