MJF may be AEW World Champion again, but he’s not thrilled about how Bandido secured his title shot—and he’s not staying quiet about it.
During a recent conversation with Brandon Walker, MJF addressed why he’s still proudly wearing the Dynamite Diamond Ring, even though Bandido technically won this year’s version. And according to the champ, the new rules around the ring are total hypocrisy.
“Think of this as a Super Bowl ring,” MJF explained. “Just because this guy won it doesn’t retract all the ones that I’ve won year after year after year after year after year.”
MJF has held the Dynamite Diamond Ring multiple times—possibly five or six, he admits he’s lost count—and he’s treating it as a symbol of legacy, not something that gets handed over each season. But what’s really got him heated is the new stipulation that gives the ring winner an AEW World Title shot.
“My boss is a mark and hates my guts,” he said bluntly. “He decided to make this the first year where if you win the ring, you don’t just win money — you also get a guaranteed title shot at Maximum Carnage. I thought that was a little f****** weird, considering I’ve won this ring year after year and I never got a title shot out of it.”
For MJF, this isn’t about sour grapes—it’s about changing the rules mid-game. He made it clear that his collection of rings isn’t going anywhere.
“I’m not just going to stop wearing my ring. I have, I think, five or six of them. I’ll check my closet when I get home. But yeah, I’m not going to stop wearing my ring because some schmagg won it once.”
While the AEW World Title match between MJF and Bandido is locked in for January 14, 2026, at the Maximum Carnage edition of Dynamite, it’s safe to say the Salt of the Earth isn’t happy about how it came together.
Do you think MJF has a point, or is he just being bitter about the rule change? Should Bandido’s win have included a title shot? Drop your thoughts below and let us know where you stand.
