AEW’s latest experiment, Tailgate Brawl, isn’t just about giving fans extra action before a pay-per-view—it’s actually part of the company’s deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The one-hour show, introduced during All Out, was designed to help AEW meet its required broadcast hours under the agreement. According to Fightful Select, the move wasn’t random at all.
“AEW Tailgate is added as a part of AEW’s deal with WBD to reach their committed hours as a part of their deal.”
The Tailgate Brawl concept rolled out at All Out with four matches before the main card, giving fans in the building an extra taste of AEW action. The format is set to continue, with WrestleDream also featuring a Tailgate Brawl stacked with four more matches.
By giving fans bonus matches, AEW not only satisfies its broadcast commitments but also opens the door for fresh matchups, extra ring time for talent, and a smoother buildup to its major shows. If the fan response stays strong, there’s a real chance Tailgate Brawl becomes a fixture on AEW’s biggest weekends.
