The Bella Twins didn’t just crash SmackDown — they barely had any notice before being thrown into the title picture.
That’s the real story coming out of the March 13, 2026 episode of WWE SmackDown, where Nikki and Brie Bella jumped into the Women’s Tag Team Title match and blew the whole thing up. The match between The Irresistible Forces and Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair was thrown out, and things quickly turned into a brawl that set up a title clash for the following week. But here’s the twist — they didn’t even know it was coming.
While speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki Bella revealed that WWE only told them about their upcoming title opportunity the same day they showed up for SmackDown. She then explained how last-minute the decision really was — with WWE dropping the news on them just hours before everything went down.
“Brie and I had been so eager to get back on TV since Brie came back at the Royal Rumble, and then we came back in Phoenix, Arizona, which was incredible. There was nothing like causing chaos. And we found out literally that day, ‘Oh, by the way, next week you have a championship match for the tag titles.’ Like, what? Wow.”
What looked like a carefully mapped-out WrestleMania build was actually something the Bellas were reacting to in real time. They walked into SmackDown, found out they were getting a title shot, and immediately became part of the biggest moment in the division that night.
Now, they’re officially set to challenge Nia Jax and Legend for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on the March 20 episode of SmackDown — and it all came together in less than a day.
Do you think WWE made the right call giving The Bella Twins a last-minute title shot, or should that opportunity have gone to another team? Drop your thoughts and feedback below.
