Wheeler Yuta might be thriving as one of AEW’s top villains, but not everyone at home is thrilled about the reaction he’s getting.
During his interview with Fightful, Yuta admitted that the “FU Yuta” chants have become regular—and some family members don’t love the way fans treat him. Yuta explained that the calls and texts roll in every so often from confused and protective relatives who take the insults a little too personally. He made it clear that one family member in particular just can’t get over it.
“My Aunt Terry, my godmother—she is not a fan of ‘the way those fans treat you.’”
Yuta also said that, even though most of his relatives are longtime wrestling fans who understand the business, there are still moments where someone reaches out concerned over why the fans seem so hostile.
But he didn’t leave it on a sentimental note. In classic heel fashion, Yuta cracked a joke that perfectly explains why the AEW crowd is giving him such an intense reaction. After all, his actions on TV haven’t exactly been subtle.
“I tried to murder my mentor with a plastic bag and then I poured bleach down another one’s throat. So I get it.”
Yuta didn’t shy away from how extreme his character has become, and his matter‑of‑fact delivery makes the whole thing even funnier. Whether the crowd loves him or hates him, he’s clearly pulling off exactly what he’s supposed to—and the boos are only helping solidify the Death Riders’ chaotic presence in AEW.
Yuta’s family might still wince when the insults start flying, but he seems more than comfortable embracing the heat.
This storyline has pushed him into a new tier as a performer, and if the crowd’s reaction is any indication, Yuta has fully leaned into his role as one of AEW’s most detestable stars.
