Serious concerns are circulating across the wrestling world regarding the health of veteran wrestling figure Konnan, but the full picture remains unclear as conflicting reports continue to emerge.

Multiple Mexican wrestling sources recently reported that the 62-year-old star underwent surgery to amputate one of his legs due to severe medical complications. According to those early reports, Konnan has been hospitalized in San Diego, California and is currently dealing with a fragile medical situation.

The story initially surfaced through Mexican wrestling creator El Potro de Acero en el Ring and was later supported by El Planchitas of the sports outlet RÉCORD. As the report spread, several major media outlets in Mexico, including MVS Noticias and El Heraldo de México, clarified that Konnan is alive but dealing with significant health issues. Some reports have also indicated that doctors are monitoring his remaining leg due to similar complications. At this time, there has been no official statement from Konnan himself confirming the reports.

In an update during Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the situation and confirmed that Konnan has been struggling with health issues for several weeks, though he said he does not know all of the details. Meltzer also noted that Konnan has reportedly been in and out of medical care during that time.

“He’s been in rough shape for a while now, probably since the last time he was on AAA television, so it’s probably been six weeks. I don’t know all of the details. I believe that he will be probably addressing it soon.”

“He’s been in and out of the hospital, mostly in, that much I know. That’s about it, really.”

Additional reporting from Mike Johnson of PWInsider added that while there has still been no official confirmation, many within the wrestling industry believe the original report about the amputation is accurate.

Konnan has dealt with major health issues for years. In 2007 he underwent a kidney transplant after suffering organ failure. More recently he revealed that he had returned to a transplant waiting list after doctors warned the lifespan of a transplanted kidney can be limited. His battle with COVID-19 in 2021 also resulted in kidney complications and heart failure that led to another serious hospitalization.

Despite those health setbacks, Konnan remained one of the most influential figures in wrestling history. He became a major star in Mexico during the 1990s with AAA and later found success in the United States during his time in WCW as a member of the nWo Wolfpac and leader of the Filthy Animals alongside stars like Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. Behind the scenes, Konnan has also played a major role in helping Mexican wrestlers break into the American wrestling scene, while remaining involved creatively with AAA in recent years.

Right now, many of the details surrounding his current condition remain unconfirmed as the wrestling industry waits for an official update from Konnan himself or those close to him.
