Rapper and wrestling promoter Westside Gunn is done with WWE—and he’s not holding back about why.
The Griselda Records founder and lifelong wrestling fan says he was kicked out of Monday Night RAW just three minutes into the show in his hometown of Buffalo, despite spending over $5,000 on tickets, travel, and lodging.
“Monday night raw starts at 8pm I was kicked out by 803 after spending 5k for a seat plus travel, hotel etc…. in my own city for absolutely NOTHING!!!! No lie the kid in me heart broke that day…”
In a lengthy statement on social media, the Grammy-nominated artist made it clear that this wasn’t a one-time issue—it was the final straw. Gunn says he’s been a loyal supporter of WWE for years, attending countless shows front row and incorporating wrestling into his music as an homage—comparing it to how Wu-Tang Clan used martial arts references.
“For YEAAAAAARS I mean NOBODY w/ 2 feet has spent the amount of $ I have supporting and pushing a brand I’ve loved since I could remember… I made ppl who hated the product watch it again. I made it look kool, when at the time ppl thought it was nerdy.”
But things took a darker turn when WWE allegedly demanded he scrub all wrestling references from his songs or risk losing everything.
“I was threatened to take everything out of my music which I only did to pay homage or my whole catalog would be demolished… and everybody knows how hard I worked coming from Buffalo.”
Gunn didn’t name names but said one individual within WWE “hates seeing a young black successful entrepreneur that could afford those seats and have to watch those chains dance across that screen.”
“I tried having conversations with 1 individual bc he’s causing all of these unnecessary cases… I’ve only been respectful.”
He also cited a lack of respect from WWE over the years, saying celebrities with no passion for wrestling were constantly seated next to him while he was ignored. Despite the emotional fallout, Westside Gunn says he’s channeling that pain into his own promotion, 4THROPE, and focusing on pushing wrestling culture on his own terms. He’s featuring wrestler Josh Bishop on the cover of his upcoming trilogy album as a sign of commitment to his new path.
“I have my own company 4THROPE and yea we’re the underdogs but we love this shit… It’s not about money… I’m honored to have @joshbishop187 on the trilogy cover bc he deserves it for believing in me from day one. U don’t have to worry about me pushing that product over there again… I’m a show love only to the ppl that show love to me from now on.”
Westside Gunn’s departure from WWE fandom ends an era for one of wrestling’s most vocal cultural supporters. But with 4THROPE on the rise, he’s turning his passion into power—on his own terms.
Do you think WWE dropped the ball by pushing away one of its biggest real-life promoters? Should Westside Gunn reveal who threatened his catalog? Sound off in the comments and let us know how you feel.
