Vince Russo has seen a lot of wild things in pro wrestling—but he says what’s happening on the independent scene right now is beyond dangerous.

During his appearance on Ready with Russo, the former WWE writer made a chilling prediction, warning that it’s only a matter of time before tragedy strikes. Russo recalled watching a clip from an indie show that left him stunned. Two wrestlers climbed a ladder over a setup covered in fluorescent light tubes—all for the sake of one shocking crowd reaction.

“Chris, I swear to God, there was this one clip… So these guys are up on a ladder, right? And down, adjacent to the ladder, they have two pieces of lattice. Through the lattice, they’ve got fluorescent tubes. So literally, there’s a hundred fluorescent tubes through this lattice. Both guys go through the 100 fluorescent tubes.”

He explained that the real danger wasn’t just to the wrestlers—but to the fans who were seated only feet away from the chaos.

“Chris, here’s what’s starting to happen now on the indies: all that debris is going out in the crowd. They have no control over it. They don’t know where it’s going to go.”

According to Russo, these reckless stunts are becoming more common because indie wrestlers are desperate to get a bigger reaction. Without compelling storylines or strong character work, many are resorting to more shocking—and dangerous—moves to keep the crowd’s attention. He said even veteran wrestler and trainer Al Snow has been warning that the business is reaching a breaking point.

“Al keeps saying, man… Al swears to this. Somebody’s going to die in a wrestling ring. You keep doing this, there’s nowhere else to go. The bar of that pop—it’s insatiable.”

Russo believes the industry has lost its way, trading storytelling and psychology for senseless violence that puts everyone in harm’s way. The line between entertainment and danger has blurred, and according to him, it’s only a matter of time before something irreversible happens. If Vince Russo’s warning comes true, indie wrestling could face its darkest moment yet.
