Malakai Black’s time in AEW has been met with mixed reactions from fans, as many feel he struggled to fit into the company. Reports also indicate that he could be leaving AEW soon, and now Vince Russo has made it clear that he doubts Black would succeed under Triple H’s leadership in WWE.
While speaking on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Vince Russo shared his doubts about Malakai Black succeeding under Triple H’s leadership. He believes Triple H has struggled to book complex characters like Karrion Kross and the Wyatt Sicks properly. According to Russo, special characters require time, careful planning, and a unique approach, which he feels WWE has failed to execute for years.
“This is the same Triple H booking Karrion Kross. This is the same Triple H booking the Wyatt Sicks. Come on, bro. Chris, here’s the problem. When you’ve got a Karrion Kross, when you’ve got a Wyatt Sicks, when you’ve got an Aleister Black—when you’ve got a special character—it takes time. You really have to take your time with them. You can’t treat Aleister Black like Randy Orton. This is a special character that requires special treatment, and they haven’t been able to accomplish that for years.“
Russo pointed out that Bo Dallas was deeply invested in the Wyatt Sicks storyline following Bray Wyatt’s passing, and the early vignettes showed promise. However, he questioned why the story ultimately went nowhere. Given this history, Russo doesn’t see why Malakai Black or anyone else should expect a different outcome.
“It takes time, it takes focus, it takes really plotting things out, planning things, and making the talent a part of it. Look at poor Bo Dallas. He was an integral part of this because his brother passed away. He pushed for this, he thought it through over and over. They came out with those early vignettes because they were focused on it at that time. He knocked it out of the park—and where did that go? So why would anybody, including Aleister Black himself, think anything would be different?”
Russo also stated that on WWE’s main stage, he has never seen Triple H successfully handle a complex character. While he didn’t watch Aleister Black’s NXT run, he emphasized that Triple H has yet to prove he can book such a character effectively on a larger scale.
“All I’ll say is this: on the big stage, I’ve not seen Triple H deliver a character like that. I did not see Aleister Black in NXT, I didn’t see that. I’m talking about the big stage. I have not seen Triple H successfully deliver a complicated character. I haven’t seen it.”
PWTorch reported that key decision-makers in WWE strongly support Malakai Black and see him as a potential top singles star. This suggests that if he returns to WWE, he will likely be welcomed and given a major role in the company. However, given WWE’s inconsistent track record with darker characters, many fans share Russo’s skepticism, so we’ll have to see whether Black will even return to WWE in the future.
Do you think Triple H could successfully book Malakai Black on WWE’s main roster? Or would he fall victim to the same creative struggles as Karrion Kross and the Wyatt Sicks? Let us know your thoughts!
