Vince Russo hasn’t been involved with WWE for several years, but it appears that Vince McMahon actually wanted Russo to come back at one point in time.

While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Vince Russo says the last time he communicated with Vince McMahon was around eight years ago, and the exchange didn’t end well.

McMahon was considering bringing him back because WWE’s numbers were dropping, but wanted Russo to “audition” for the job. Russo refused because he felt his work should already speak for itself.

“When was the last time I spoke to Vince McMahon? The last time we had an email exchange was probably eight years ago — and it didn’t go too well. It was about… he was entertaining the idea of bringing me back because the numbers were going down again. He kinda wanted me to audition for the job, and I’m like, ‘Vince, I think you know what I can do. I’m not jumping through hoops. You can continue going down the road you’re going down.’”

Before all the recent controversies, Russo says he would have considered returning at that time. McMahon asked him to watch the shows for a month and send him feedback, but when Russo asked what he would be paid for that month, McMahon responded that he should be grateful for the opportunity. Russo made it clear he wasn’t going to work for free, saying those days were long over.

“Yeah — before all the stuff went down, probably about eight years ago or so. Would I have considered it? Yes. He wanted me to watch the shows for a month and give him my feedback. I came back like, ‘Okay, no problem — what are you paying me for that month?’ And he hit me with, ‘Pay you? You should be thrilled to have this kind of opportunity.’ I’m like, ‘Vince, I’m not a kid out of college. I’m not working for free. I’m not watching the shows. If you’re compensating me, no problem — but the days of me doing anything for free are long gone.’”

Russo stated that Vince McMahon became very nasty in the final email, even making personal insults. He chose not to respond, and that was the end of their communication.

“I’ll be honest, he got very nasty with me — and the last email was really nasty. He was hitting me below the belt, and I didn’t even answer it. Yeah, personal insults.”

At the end of the day, Vince Russo refused to return to the company because he felt Vince McMahon was treating him disrespectfully. It’s clear the two aren’t on good terms now and regardless, fans just have to accept the fact that Russo will never be in WWE again.
