Vince McMahon might’ve officially stepped down from WWE and TKO in 2024 after being slapped with a sex trafficking lawsuit, but Vince Russo thinks fans shouldn’t be so quick to believe he’s actually out of the picture.

On the Coach and Bro show, Russo didn’t hold back when discussing McMahon’s alleged continued influence in WWE’s creative process—even after the public fallout and multiple executives voting against his return.

“Stephanie and Triple H were supposed to come back for 90 days, and Vince was going to be welcomed back with open arms. The only thing that changed was Vince came back in 60 days instead,” Russo claimed. “That tells me they purposely voted against him to make things look good for the shareholders… Vince still held the trump card.”

According to Russo, what seemed like a permanent separation was actually a carefully staged performance.

“There was no real heat. That was all part of the plan. The way this looks—with the misguidance, the lying, the shenanigans, and the games being played with the shareholders—it’s bad.”

And he didn’t stop there. Russo pointed to specific segments on WWE television that, in his view, scream “Vince.” One example? The Joe Hendry song aired on SmackDown, which mocked The Miz’s “tiny balls.”

“Did you hear the lyrics to Joe Hendry’s SmackDown song? The entire song was built around Miz’s ‘tiny balls.’ Who does that sound like to you? Who would be cracking up in the gorilla position over something like that?”

The former WWE writer was adamant that this kind of creative direction is vintage McMahon.

“Give me a break. Give me 18 months. This guy is still involved… Vince is somewhere slapping his leg, thinking this is hysterical. Everything we’ve learned tells us he’s never truly not been involved.”

These comments directly challenge the company line from March 2024, when TKO COO Mark Shapiro declared during a Morgan Stanley Conference:

“He doesn’t work for the company. He doesn’t work at the company … and he’s not coming back to the company.”

So, what’s the truth? Is Vince McMahon really gone, or is he still steering WWE’s creative ship from the shadows? Only time will tell, but if Russo’s right, then fans might be seeing more of Vince’s style than they think.
