Vince McMahon may not have given the keys to WWE’s kingdom to Shane McMahon, as Triple H received that passing of the torch, but there was a time when Shane was thought to be next in line. At the same time, Raven wore a lot of hats in pro wrestling other than being an in-ring talent. Some may not realize it, but it was also Shane McMahon’s drinking buddy for a while.

Raven had quite a career, even after leaving his Flock in WCW. He eventually saw himself get a TNA Hall of Fame induction, although he did need therapy for never winning the big one in WWE. That being said, he may have been able to do more in WWE if he had partied in a different circle of friends.

During an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Raven dove into his career a bit. He admitted that his proclivity of going out with Shane McMahon to paint the town red may have played into why Vince McMahon didn’t push him as much as some believed he deserved.

“I had Vince’s kid, Shane, out, until the wee hours of the night drinking. I left a bad impression. Yeah, we were really good friends. You know, it’s funny. The boys thought ‘oh you’re just kissing the boss’ son’s ass going out with him every night.’ I thought, ‘no, I’m burying myself, because no dad wants their son out until 4 in the morning with a reprobate like me.”

Raven went on to say that Shane McMahon was humble, but “he also knew he was taking over the company.” Of course, that’s not how things turned out for Shane-O Mac, but things also didn’t turn out as they were planned for Raven.

At the time, Raven was an associate producer for WWE RAW, and he was being “groomed to be on the booking committee.” That being said, he was also “obnoxious and had to be the smartest guy in the room and make sure everyone knew that, and that’s no way to behave. That’s not a good attitude to have.”

We will keep a close eye on Raven, because you never know where he may pop up next. At this point, he is still making headlines as a new documentary about his life is coming out.
