NXT commentator Vic Joseph is finally breaking his silence on the shocking release of his wife, McKenzie Mitchell, from WWE—and he’s not sugarcoating anything.

Speaking on the Getting Over podcast, Joseph admitted that Mitchell’s firing in December 2023 blindsided both of them, especially since it came just weeks after the death of his father.

“I’ll be honest about it. I was completely caught off guard,” Joseph revealed. “My father passed away in October. She was fired the first week of December. So it was like boom, boom, you know. So, yeah, it completely caught me off guard. It completely caught her off guard, and caught some people in the company off guard as well.”

Despite the shock, Joseph said they harbored no ill will toward WWE, acknowledging that at the end of the day, it was a business decision.

“The only thing we could do is go about it with grace. And now she’s back in TNA; she’s back home to the promotion she wanted to go back to,” he said. “I’m so proud of her.”

Joseph also gave props to Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Michael Cole for personally reaching out to them after the release.

“All three reached out. All three talked to us. All three talked to us on a personal level. I don’t want to share those conversations, obviously. But that is why, to me, WWE is home for me,” Joseph said, emphasizing the emotional connection he still has to the company.

As for Mitchell, she’s clearly thriving in TNA, but Joseph isn’t ruling out a possible return somewhere down the line.

“Anything can happen a year from now. And there’s no ill will towards anybody from her towards WWE,” he noted. “She even just told me today, ‘Hey, I’d love to make it to Stand and Deliver when I’m out in Vegas just to say hi to Shawn and give him a hug.’”

At the end of the day, wrestling is a wild business, and nothing stays the same forever. McKenzie Mitchell may be thriving in TNA, but with WWE and TNA’s growing relationship, doors are never fully closed. If there’s one thing wrestling has taught us—it’s never say never.
