Fans heading to the April 3 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in St. Louis got a heads-up email about venue rules — but one banned item stood out more than anything else.

Along with the usual security reminders about bag sizes and clear bag policies, attendees were told that Money in the Bank briefcases will not be allowed inside the Enterprise Center. That caught attention right away because the briefcase is one of WWE’s most recognizable items — and something the company often sells to fans at live events. The notice sent to ticket holders obtained by Rinside News, made the restriction clear when listing prohibited items.

“We do not allow the Money In The Bank briefcase to be brought into the event.”

What makes this rule especially interesting is that WWE regularly sells replica Money in the Bank briefcases at shows and through its merchandise stores. Many fans bring them to events as part of the experience.

Most of the rest of the venue rules were standard. Clear bags larger than 12” x 12” x 6” are not allowed, and non-clear clutch bags must be smaller than 4.5” x 6.5”. But it was the briefcase rule that stood out, especially given how closely tied it is to WWE merchandise and fan culture.

With SmackDown set to bring a packed crowd to St. Louis, fans planning to attend may want to double-check what they’re bringing — especially if they were thinking about carrying one of those replica briefcases they bought at a previous show.

What do you think about venues banning Money in the Bank briefcases even though WWE sells them at events — should fans be allowed to bring them, or do you think the rule makes sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
