The AEW Trios Title match at Dynasty didn’t just feature a surprise return — it also saw an unexpected injury that forced a major change mid-match.
AEW Dynasty 2026 took place on April 12 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Clark Connors, David Finlay, and Gabe Kidd defended the AEW Trios Championships against Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and a mystery partner later revealed as Kyle O’Reilly. The match was already getting attention for O’Reilly’s return to the ring, but an in-ring incident shifted the focus in a different direction.
According to Fightful Select, Gabe Kidd was removed from the match during the middle of the title defense after appearing to suffer an injury. Those backstage reportedly noticed something was wrong as he was escorted away from the ring by medical personnel.
“An unfortunate injury happened at AEW Dynasty. Gabe Kidd was removed from his Trios Title defense at AEW Dynasty. Midway through The Dogs title defense against the Conglomeration, Gabe Kidd was taken to the back by the AEW medical team. Those we spoke to at the show said he did appear to be injured upon arriving backstage.”
The report also noted that Kidd appeared to be favoring a specific injury as he left the match.
“Kidd appeared to be holding his wrist during the exit. The rest of the match had to be called on an altered plan. We are working to find out if the match finish was changed at all.”
With Kidd removed from the bout, the match continued under revised circumstances, and the titles ultimately changed hands, giving Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly the victory. However, the injury quickly became one of the biggest talking points coming out of the match.
At this point, there has been no official word on the severity of Kidd’s injury, but the fact that the match had to continue without him suggests the situation was serious enough to force immediate adjustments.
If Gabe Kidd ends up missing time, it could have a ripple effect on the trios division, especially given how quickly the match had to be altered once he was taken to the back. Ringside News will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
