The Undertaker is finally pulling back the curtain on one of WWE’s most talked-about moments — the end of his legendary WrestleMania undefeated streak at the hands of Brock Lesnar.

Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, the Deadman admitted he didn’t want the streak to be broken — and neither did anyone else. After dominating WrestleMania for 21 straight victories, Undertaker’s run came to a shocking halt at WrestleMania 30 in 2014. But according to him, the decision wasn’t his.

“I think the general consensus was that none of us wanted that. Nobody wanted it,” he said. “I think the lore, the legend and lure of that, it would have been really cool for wrestling.”

When fans ask why he agreed to the outcome, The Undertaker says they’re misunderstanding how WWE works. He clarified that while he technically had a choice, in reality, it wasn’t really up to him.

“It’s not my decision. People ask me all the time, ‘Well, why did you do it?’ Well, I didn’t really have a choice. I guess I did have a choice. I didn’t have to do it.”

He then threw in a darkly funny scenario if he had refused to lose:

“And then what happens? And then me and Brock are having to shoot at WrestleMania, and then it’s gonna, it wouldn’t have been good. I mean, might have taken it easy on him.”

Despite not agreeing with the call, Taker ultimately accepted it out of respect for the business — and for all those who put him over throughout the years to build The Streak.

“You have to look at this business… there’s a lot of people that probably didn’t want to put me over to get me into that position, and they did it, and it’s just kind of the way it works.”
“Wasn’t my decision. So I had to make the best of the hand that was dealt me.”

Adding to the surreal nature of that match, The Undertaker says he doesn’t even remember it — a result of the concussion he suffered during the bout.

“That’s probably the best part,” he admitted.

Despite the loss, Taker would go on to wrestle five more times at WrestleMania, ending his career with a record of 25-2 on the grandest stage of them all. The Streak’s end may have shocked the world, but for The Undertaker, it was simply a decision he had to live with.
