Tyra Mae Steele had the wrestling world worried after claiming she’d been released by WWE — but it turns out the situation may not be what it seemed.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, WWE told the outlet that Steele has not been released from the company. In fact, the promotion indicated the viral post that sparked the confusion was actually describing a dream she had. Fightful relayed WWE’s response directly after Steele’s tweet began circulating widely across social media.
“WWE tells Fightful Tyra Mae Steele has not been released. She was literally tweeting about a dream she had.”
The clarification comes after Steele herself took to Twitter on March 12, 2026 and posted a message that many fans interpreted as confirmation she had been fired. In the post, Steele described what appeared to be a dramatic chain of events involving an amateur wrestling competition, a gold medal win, and a sudden WWE release once she returned to work.
“On a weekend off working for WWE, I went back to Olympic wrestling, won gold at Worlds, prize purse was 0000…. Tried to go back to WWE that Monday. They moved me up to Raw, just to tell me they had to let me go bc I went behind their back…. So was this a DREAM or NIGHTMARE.”
The tweet quickly spread across the wrestling community, with many assuming WWE had cut ties with Steele after she competed outside the company without permission. Before the confusion happened, Steele had been steadily building momentum inside WWE. She signed with the company in 2023 and later won the first season of WWE LFG in June 2025, earning an NXT contract.
Following that win, she appeared across WWE NXT and WWE NXT Level Up while also becoming a regular competitor on the WWE Evolve series on Tubi. Her most recent match came in February 2026 when she challenged Kendall Grey for the Evolve Women’s Championship.
For now, it appears the entire situation may have simply been a misunderstood tweet rather than an actual roster move — though the post definitely managed to get the wrestling world talking for a while.
