Tyler Breeze is finally pulling back the curtain on the Fashion Files—one of the weirdest and most beloved segments in recent WWE history. The popular series ran from 2016 to 2017 on SmackDown and turned Breeze and Fandango into cult favorites overnight. But according to Breeze, it only existed because no one else was doing anything with them—and it ended not by design, but likely by mistake.

Appearing on Overbooked’s In The Weeds, Breeze revealed the Fashion Files began as a DIY project when WWE wasn’t using the Breezango team.

“All of the sudden, they tagged us up and we were essentially just supposed to be the other guys to Goldust and Truth,” Breeze explained. “We were supposed to be the butt of the joke… So I went, hey, I’m going to write a couple of things and see what we can do.”

Breeze took matters into his own hands, writing and filming sketches for WWE.com with Fandango. They played fashion cops, eventually evolving into full-on detectives in parody segments with cameos from names like Billy Kidman. Breeze recalled one shoot where he couldn’t stop laughing at Fandango’s improv. That’s when the right people noticed.

“The head writer of SmackDown saw it and went, ‘Why isn’t this on SmackDown?’ I went, ‘I don’t know, you write SmackDown, so put it on there,’” Breeze said. Just like that, it made the leap to TV.

Even though Vince McMahon didn’t understand the appeal, the Fashion Files became the top-trending social media content on SmackDown.

“Vince went, ‘What is that? Why are we putting this on TV?’” Breeze recalled. But once social media reports showed it was number one, “He goes, ‘Okay, book it again I guess.’”

From there, Vince shockingly gave the writers complete freedom.

“He’s not asking questions, he’s not questioning it… The writers at the time told us, they went, yeah, this is unheard of,” Breeze explained. “They were having a blast writing all of this crazy stuff.”

The streak lasted eight months—until it abruptly stopped. According to Breeze, the ending wasn’t planned.

“To this day, I think it got canceled by accident,” he said. “Vince said, ‘Why are we doing this? They don’t have a match on the pay-per-view, so why are we doing this?’ I think all the writers freaked out like, oh god he hates it, never do it again. Then, we never did another one after that.”

The Fashion Files helped redefine Tyler Breeze and Fandango’s WWE careers, showing how creative risks—even ones not fully endorsed by Vince—can still click with fans.
