Shelton Benjamin just pulled back the curtain on one of WWE’s most controversial parody promos—and it involves Vince McMahon, Trish Stratus, and a whole lot of towel drama.

During an appearance on The Gold Standard podcast with Maven Huffman, Benjamin addressed the infamous segment that aired as a spoof of the 2004 NFL commercial featuring Desperate Housewives stars in nothing but towels. WWE’s version featured Benjamin, Trish Stratus in a towel with a face mask for her broken nose, and none other than Vince McMahon himself.

The spot ended with Stratus dramatically dropping her towel on camera, leading many to believe she was completely nude underneath. But Benjamin says that was never the case. “No. I think they had like a bikini under there or something. Definitely not naked,” he explained.

Benjamin also added that the entire parody was WWE’s way of clapping back at the American public’s outrage over the original NFL ad, calling it harmless fun. WWE’s twist on the commercial even included what Benjamin described as a layer of racial humor from Mr. McMahon—another reason the segment stirred controversy when it aired.

WWE has always walked the line with edgy segments, but this one in particular left fans questioning what really happened behind the scenes. Now, Benjamin’s comments give fans a clearer picture of what was actually going on when the cameras were rolling.

What do you think of WWE’s parody segment now that you know the truth? Should they have pushed the boundaries like that? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
